A little Franque art manifesto

Art is fundamental to the Franque concept. Franque founder Sarah Hook has a lifetime’s experience with contemporary Australian fine art collections. The Franque salon has been purposely designed to offer a new type of environment to experience interesting, collectable pieces - away from a “retail” setting into a private “salon” space where art coexists, collides and harmonises with great Franque interiors. Since Franque’s inception in late 2011, clients have embraced this new art space, acquiring important works from living artists very much in their prime. The relationships between Sarah Hook, the artists and collectors is unique. Franque is not a gallery. It is a concept. The Franque salon offers a genuine intimacy with art - from the way the works are displayed, through to the artists engagement in the Franque cultural life - through private evenings, dinners and experiences.

Buongiorno SMN
Thanks to Manon Bis, fans of Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella can get set for a wintry treat. In June, Franque has planned an extravaganza of SMN shopping at the salon. SMN will be one of a hand-picked coterie of luxe brands coming to the Franque event. The event will coincide with the delivery of our new container of goodies from the continent. The guest list will be tight but we want to make sure that all of FoFs (Friends of Franque) get the VIP treatment. We will be stocking up on the famous terracotta pomegranate.

We heart coloured glass
It wouldn’t be Franque without indulging in our fetish for colored French glass. We have gone a bit mad on these glasses, because we know the pleasure of drinking rose or reds out of them. They simply make any table look great.

Inspiration on tap
We are featuring this inspiring Bookspaperscissors piece, some Paper Art by presentandcorrect (yes it’s correct spelling!) for the simple fact that it is just damn fine. We have a new feature on the Franque blog where we scout the world for incredible visual inspiration and keep feeding it into our web pages to nourish our (and hopefully your) aesthetic souls. Take a peek at our Liked By Franque.

The L factor
Franque-ophiles will know Lucy O’Sullivan as an integral part of the Franque team. She has that Franque je ne sais quoi and we like to think that she is fresh out of the Belle Epoque and she will be the protagonist in Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris 2. She loves lashings of Serge Gainsboug, has a fetish for fine fabrics and her Rouge Allure is never far from hand.

Autumn at Franque

As the last summer rays fade, it’s time to create more warmth and intimacy in the home. I like to bring bring a warmer atmosphere into living spaces - new custom window coverings, open fires, candles, lamps in the daytime, the smell of a roast, maple leaf and camellia arrangements. The next Franque shipment from this month’s trip includes an overload of coloured glass, old fine china and extraordinary pieces that lend themselves to winter interiors. Embrace the season, your inner warmth, make a soup, pass the King Island Stormy and Vin Chaud.

On other Franque matters, a simple upgrade of the site has allowed me to indulge in my love of inspiring visuals, bloggers and kooks from across the globe in my Likes section. I admit I get carried away with nice windows, flea style and ferns but it’s very Franque.
